What's Been Happening With Us?

It's been awhile since I have posted. Thought I might drop a few quick lines to tell what has been going on.

Jacob just got back from Washington DC. He went with his 8th grade class. He had a great time and came back with all sorts of things to share with us. He really enjoyed the Smithsonian Air Museum and the Holocaust Museum (maybe "enjoy" is not the right word for that one). He did NOT like the Einstein Memorial since it was just a statue of Einstein and he could not see why it was important enough to take up his time. He is thrilled that this week is spring break. Oh...and he got his first call from a girl, tonight. Don't tell him I told : )

Hannah is only half happy about it being spring break. She misses her friends and her teachers and band and everything else about school. She just recently finished her volleyball season in which her team won three games. They were thrilled since last year they only won one. She is now getting ready for the school talent show. She will be playing "Linus and Lucy" on the piano.

Lily is being Silly Lily. She is singing and playing and reading all the time. When she is not doing these things she is breaking down in tears trying to get her way. We are working on that one. She is quite a lady about town. She does not like staying home at all. Oh...she is also learning to swim! No more floaties for her!

Kermit has been working, scouting, camping, remodeling at church, fixing cars, being dad and husband and otherwise keeping himself busy. What a guy!

I have been recovering from getting my wisdom teeth out (sounds easy, but is taking FOREVER to heal)and playing with the Cricut die-cut machine Kermit and the kids got me for Christmas. FUN!

A few payer requests:
Our friend Amanda's mom, Diane - she has been on dialysis for years and is now having complications (AGAIN!). Please pray for her health and wisdom for the doctors. Also pray for Amanda and her brother as they are dealing with their mother's illness.

Daniel and Tina - they are back from the mission field to stay (at least for now). Daniel is looking for work, but as we all know, that is easier said than done. Please pray that they find work and a permanent place to stay. Pray that they will recieve clear direction from God on what their next steps should be.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY 2 U!

I just wanted to take the time to shout out a Great Big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to a very special lady: My MOM.
XX years ago today Carol Louise Record (now Krieg) was born. I am very thankful for that because if she wasn't, then I wouldn't be here.

LOVE YOU MOM!!

What I Have Learned

Last Thursday I had all four wisdom teeth cut out. The top two were rooted up into my sinus cavity and the bottom two were rooted up against the nerve bundles that run along the jawline. I have spent the last four days on the couch or in the recliner with a bilateral ice pack on my face. Glamorous...I know. The left side of my face is doing ok with minimal swelling. The right side, though, has swollen to outrageous proportions. I have seriously looked like I was holding a baseball in my cheek. It has gone down a little but has moved into my neck and up into my eye. The pain has actually not been bad, but the swelling is not comfortable.

With all this sitting around, I have had time to learn a few things:

- I always thought I handled pain well. Mouth pain is different and I now realize I really am a big baby.
- Sammie's has the best milkshakes in town, HANDS DOWN!
- Milkshakes are good, but one a day for four days is just too much. No more, please.
- Soup is great, but watching your husband eat an egg roll in front of you while you have to stick to the egg drop soup is just cruel and unusual punishment.
- Losing four teeth is a great excuse to have a Venti Frap.
- Children who usually fuss and roll their eyes at the thought of doing anything extra become super helpful when mom isn't feeling her best. I might be able to use this knowledge to my advantage at a later time.
- Six year olds have a hard time covering their true feelings when trying to make you feel better. They say things like "your face looks better...well, a tiny bit anyway".
- That same six year old makes my heart melt when she says "give me a pageant kiss (aka an air kiss) so I don't hurt your face" or "if you want something, all you have to do is let me know. I'm a great helper."
- Not eating for four days is a great way to lose 10 pounds.
- I could never be anorexic. I need real food.
- Big rear ends hurt after four days of sitting.
- Laughter is the best medicine until it pulls your stitches.
- I love serving my family and I do not like it when I cannot do things for them.
- My husband is the greatest and is willing to do whatever needs to be done to help me when I need it. He is a blessing!

So, all in all it has been a interesting ride. The family has been great and I am looking forward to things getting back to normal...quickly, I hope.
