Let it SNOW

OK, it is 5:30 am and I have to leave for work. Just imagine the surprise I got when I look out and see about 1/2 inch of snow. Much to Jacob's dissappointment, school was NOT cancelled. Maybe next time. OH the joys of living in the frozen North. It did look absolutley BEAUTIFUL on the trees.

Two Nuts Camping

This past weekend afforded the opportunity for two nuts (Jacob and Kermit) to head out to the great outdoors and do a little camping. It wouldn't have been toooooo bad except for the extremely high temperatures hitting the area. Our temps only hit a high of about 34 Fahrenheit with wind gusts of up to 30 mph.

During the weekend, there was another Boy Scout Troop in the area who was going through wilderness survival with the Weeblos(Cub Scouts that are crossing over to Boy Scouts). They did all sorts of things like signaling for help in time of distress, using a zip line, and building shelters out of whatever they could find(branches, sticks, leaves, etc.). I must say that they did an EXCELLENT job! Well, when our Scouts who were away at the Naval Base for merit badge classes returned to the campsite, they saw the shelters and were begging to build their own. Then, they were asking to sleep in them Saturday night. Jacob was no exception.

Now I need to tell you that our Scouts did not return to the campsite until about 4 in the afternoon and it usually gets dark about 4:30-5:00. Let me show you what J-Man came up with.

These pics were taken with Kermit's cell phone so the clarity is not the best. The one on the left is the outside of Jacob's shelter. Yes, it looks like a big pile of leaves possibly because it IS one. The pic on the right is a view from outside looking in. I inspected the shelter before Jake moved in and thought it to be safe for the night. On Sunday morning, Jake told me how warm it was inside his makeshift shelter. All in all, he did a GREAT job and made me proud.

I should also tell you that we were having snow flurries while we were taking down our tents on Sunday. If anyone should feel the urge, our next campout is scheduled for January 16-18, 2009. Come join us!

It was ME!

Sitting in Culver's last night, it went something like this:

Candy smells "something". She looks at Kermit and says (with a wrinkled nose)"Was that you?"

Kermit responds "No".

Lily says (quite loudly and with a huge, proud smile) "It was ME! I foofed!"

As I type this, I realize it does not sound funny at all. I guess it was a total location thing...you had to be there. We laughed until we cried.
